Trail Dedication

In 2010, three prominent Town residents were recognized with trail dedications. Carl Kiekhaefer was recognized for his generous donation to purchase the Park 40 years earlier; Orville Schmitz, a long-time volunteer caretaker of the Park, planted trees and mowed trails in the Park for decades; and US Army Captain Derek Dobogai, a ’99 graduate of WLA, was a frequent visitor to the Park and considered it one of his favorite places. He served in Iraq and Afghanistan and was killed while serving in Iraq in 2007.

Donations

The Town of Taycheedah is blessed with unique parks because of the vision of Town leaders and generous donors. Town residents who would like to support the Town of Taycheedah parks system are encouraged to consider donations for specific projects or general maintenance. Projects could include benches, picnic tables, shelters, park signs, trees, etc. Town residents may also consider donations as a part of planned giving by including the town parks in their will.

Ed Schneider has constructed a donation canister for the park entrance.

Mountain Bikers

Riding in Kiekhaefer Park is a unique privilege. Protect that privilege by following these guidelines. Kiekhaefer Park’s unique terrain also makes it very vulnerable to erosion. Prevent user-caused erosion by-

Never ride on trails when closed.

Stay off wet trails (usually for 24 hours after rainfall. Longer periods for heavy rains and in spring time. Trails will be closed for at least 24 hours after one inch or more of rains). The clay soils of Kiekhaefer park do not dry quickly unlike soils of Kettle Moraine Forest.

Do not create new trails. All trails must have approval of Town of Taycheedah Parks and Recreation.

Responsible use of the park can best assure continued use. Use common sense.

Every attempt will be made to keep trail status current on website.

Horses

Riding in Kiekhaefer Park is a unique privilege. Protect that privilege by following these guidelines. Kiekhaefer Park’s unique terrain also makes it very vulnerable to erosion. Horse hooves quickly create erosion cuts.

Never ride on trails when closed.

Stay off wet trails (usually for 48 hours after rainfall. Longer periods for heavy rains and in spring time.).

Ride only on designated horse trails.

Horse trails are used as ski trails in winter. Horse trails are closed from November 15- April 15.
